San Diego Chargers Wide Receiver Pleads Guilty To DUI Charge
San Diego DUI Attorney Details NEWS
Sadly, drunk driving, or driving under the influence (DUI) as it is more commonly known, occurs more frequently than one might think. The DUI offense is often more popularized when celebrities are caught suspected of driving under the influence, such as the case with Vincent Jackson, San Diego Chargers Pro Bowl Receiver.
This (2010) was not Vincent Jackson's first drunken driving offense. In fact, this guilty plea is for the second DUI charge for the San Diego Chargers receiver. Needless to say, media, sports-related and mainstream has been having a hay day with this news, but sensationalism aside, the real story may be less prominent.
Sports celebrities have become iconic figures and role models for youth across the country - especially when they represent social victories for ethnic minorities. But when an athletic hero falls, it can undo the positive influence on youth accumulated to that point. More so, when successful sports jocks are caught drunk driving, they send a very bad message to their fans.
Picking trash on California roadsides and paying thousands of dollars in fines, may seem like a penalty to some DUI felons, but given the income levels of many sports celebrities, this might not even a small dent in the pocket book. Of course, a common pattern of post-bust-conviction behavior, includes the perfunctory repentence, commitment to seek support, and promise to never do it again.
To drive drunk is a serious offense, and it rarely happens by accident. BEFORE one starts to consume alcoholic beverages, one has the opportunity to review their personal history with alcohol and, if necessary, prepare themselves accordingly. If a drinker has a history of not recognizing or respecting others indicating that they have had too much to drink to drive, they should proactively take measures to prevent the possibility of getting behind the with with a blood alcohol level in excess of legal limits.
