Almost a dozen motorists may now be in need of DUI Attorney services, following a San Diego checkpoint, mid-February 2010. Over one thousand vehicles were stopped, on the early Sunday morning. Of the almost 30 drivers evaluated, 10 were arrested for suspicion of DUI.
San Diego, is not the only community afflicted with drunk drivers. Driving Under the Influence (DUI) is common all across the state of California, and the US. What makes the state of California unique in its own notorious ways, is the high level of celebrity DUI incidents. Hollywood (or Hollyweird, as known by many) seems to breed a culture of wreckless self-indulgence.
Unfortunately, more harm may be done than good whenever a drunk driving star gets the spotlight for his or her misdeeds. With mainstream media, virtually dictating what "official" American culture is to young unprotected impressionable minds, the topic of DUI yields more of a voyeuristic appeal than foster the reverence, this sobering topic deserves.
It almost seems a shame that every dollar spent by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, California Office of Traffic Safety, and other law enforcement agencies, on protecting the public at large from drunk drivers, pales in comparison to the dollars available to, and spent on, alcohol-related advertising, and auto industry "need for speed" style culture advertising.
It would not be the first time that consumers and rate payers would consider holding alcohol giants and auto promoters (who aren't too busy making recall apologies) to a higher standard and financial commitment. The "tempting booze" and "fast driving is cool" commercials seem to contribute more to the kind of mindset that breeds wreckless DUI, than the perfunctory public service announcements which try to address the responsible side of the issue.
